The
Monterey County Animal Shelter rescued 75 Rabbits from a
field where they were dumped in Salinas. This shelter can
only hold a maximum of 6. Rescue Rabbits Rock is assisting,
along with the Monterey SPCA in finding temporary foster
homes. All need to be spayed & neutered, then will be
available for adoption. This is by far the largest rescue
our county has faced in over 3 years. Donations are welcome.
Many of these bunnies will be available at our next adoption
shows.
Q-Tip is AFRP's Medical
female REX from 75+ Marina dump.
Q-TIP
My name is Q TIP, not the
prettiest name, but quite fitting for the condition
I was in when I came into
the shelter w/my 75+ other friends. Some of us got
fairly tattered & torn when we were dumped out in the
Marina Sand Dunes w/no where to run & hide. But the
Monterey County Animal services & Dr. Davis cleaned me
up & gave me some medicine to help me recover. Then the
AFRP RESCUE RABBITS ROCK volunteers came out the very
next day to save me.
They rushed me out to the
AVIAN & EXOTIC CLINIC to recheck my bite wounds, who
decided I was healthy enough to be spayed. I am starting
to regain my beauty again, seeing I am a soft velvety
REX, I will only get prettier
w/time. Did I tell you how
SWEET I am & already litter bow trained ?
Maybe, just maybe, my future
family will give me a more appropriate name !
Anyone willing to
help fund raise directly to this group:
RESCUE RABBITS ROCK recently
accepted this surrender because he’s had a heck of a past &
deserves our care! His owner died & was then “set free” to
fend for himself (so we named him HOBO). A second person
found & took him in but eventually seems to have lost
interest. A 3rd party came to his recent rescue
on Christmas day 2011, removing him from an apt.
w/inadequate living conditions. She then called us seeking
immediate assistance, so a volunteer met up & took him home
to foster. He is severely underweight & began devouring
everything put in front of him. He is adjusting to a warm
loving home instantly (watch video!). He is available anytime for
adoption but NEEDS someone who understands a healthy diet so
he can become a healthy happy boy! He has no issues !!! Just
wants protection and food & exercise. AGE unknown.
My name is
Harvey and I'm a neutered male, brown/white Shorthaired Rabbit. AFRP
Rescue Rabbits Rock have been really sweet to me, but there's nothing like being in your own home FOREVER! I
almost got adopted shortly after a pair of my siblings did,
but....it didn't happen, I was so sad. Now the AFRP Rabbit folks are
gunna take me to their shows so I get seen more, so I can show off
my fancy colors & maybe my twitchy nose will lure someone close, and
we can bond. I got some pent up energy but will relax once I shake
it all outta my system! PLEASE look into my happy eyes & consider
taking me home today! I promise to be your best friend. I was
neutered in Dec. 2010 so I am more laid back now.
Update: Harvey was
adopted, but had to be returned. He is available for adoption once
again!
This is one of the 10 bunnies who was found in the Salinas Shelter Night
Drop Fortunately an employee of the shelter arrived at work
Monday Dec 12, 2011 and noticed some movement on the side of
the building. Since the night drop was not officially
opened, she was surprised to find that somebody had placed
them inside sometime over the weekend, They were left with
no food, hay, water or litter boxes and no one knows for
sure how long they were there. They gathered them up, brought
them inside and gave them comfortable cages. They then
immediately called Rescue rabbits Rock. We raced out to help
separate and evaluate their conditions, we arranged spays
for all of the girls. All were filthy and most of the girls
were all pregnant. Avian Exotic Clinic was kind enough to
clean and care for them. After a general exam they were all
found to be in good health. 5 are available for adoption
/fostering ASAP and 5 are still at the shelter awaiting
homes. They are proving to be friendly sweet bunnies and we
will make sure that they find the best homes ever! He was neutered
on Jan 2, 2012. He is approx 3 to 4 months old and
weighs about 2 pounds and is beautiful, soft and sweet but
has never known love.

spayed 12/16/2011. We have been watching her and and have
noticed that she doesn't even know how to hop yet. We are
teaching her.
Now that MADISON has come
into our Program, we have gotten to know her sweet
deposition. She is an angel of a bunny! She loves to be
held, never kicking, scratching or nipping. She is a
peoples bunny and would rather not have small dogs
barking in her house. She would adjust to a large dog
however & is currently in foster home w/7 cats so that
is no issue. She is reserved, mellow & petite, yearning
for a home to adore her! She was spayed at Monterey
County Animal Services in Dec 2011 and appears to be
young but not a teenager, approx. 1yr? She is a great
produce/hay eater but doesn’t like treats (doesn’t know
what they are). We’re teaching her an apple slice is
yummy. She too, like her sister POPSICLE, literally did
not know how to hop. She now bounces & even did her
first ½ binky!
Are you
looking for a perfect bunny? Look no further,
Marty is your man! I am Marty's' foster mom and
when I say perfect, I mean perfect! Marty is the
cutest little snugglebun ever, I can not explain how or
why after being dumping in the night drop at the
shelter, he
could be so
trusting, but he is! Marty was shy at first but is
now exploring and hopping around the house, but his
favorite thing is to lay
on the couch and
get loved & will set right next to you for an eternity!
He
really is perfect. He doesn't kick, doesn't bite,
doesn't chew, doesn't run from you when it's time to go
in his house. After Marty's' first night I awoke to the
pleasant surprise that Marty is not only adorable but
perfectly potty trained! You could not ask for
more in a house bunny, all in a little adorable package,
that is Marty!
TANNER arrived into the AFRP
Rabbit Program on 6/9/2011 at the age of 9 weeks. He
arrived w/his 2 other siblings TONYA & TONY. They all
came from a 3 acre residence in Contra Costa County were
they were left outside free to breed before the owner
noticed they had quite a problem. Within 2 months she
had over 30 baby rabbits before she decided to ask for
help. A fabulous rescue group from CC is trying to solve
the problem and we are helping by trying to take in as
many as possible. TANNER is definitely a people bunny,
but also as a tad of teenager in him! He loves
attention, clean as a bunny could ever be, and loves
some free time to BINKY. He is as easy going as can be.
He was recently separated from his brother TONY so he
needs some extra lovins’ or a spayed bunny girl to spend
his time with.. He grew up w/7 cats and is not afraid of
anything! He is perfectly potty box trained and loves to
be held! Both TONY and TANNER were neutered at AVIAN on
JUNE 14th 2011.

These Mini
Rexes & Rex Mixes are all amazingly
friendly considering the conditions they
were rescued from.
They were
kept in horrendous filthy wire pens
packed w/hair, rot, feces, filth & no
food or water. It took 2 weeks to clean
them, vet exam, spay/neuter them but
w/the volunteer work from some
incredible vets, assistances, vet techs,
shelter volunteers & rescue groups, we
accomplished this enormous expensive
task and they are now safe. SIX are in
our Program more than ready to be

This
beautiful
bunny with
ice blue

soft as silk
fur is
friendly and
calm - She
is even
spayed. So
why on death

she nipped
one of the

had been in
one of those
cages that
only have a
top opening
- fish bowl
aquarium
type cage.
She just got

has not

NOAH
arrived one nite in a
cage strapped to the
back of a Miada
Convertible! It was so
wrong & scary but it was
a sight! He was bought
at CV Hacienda Hay &
Feed then surrendered to
us when he was a mere 9
weeks old (as of
8/18/11). He is a
survivor to say the
least! We quickly
arranged a comfortable
dog crate w/shelves so
he could have a safe yet
spacious place to call
home until he finds his
forever family. He is
hold able, entertaining,
fearless and very easily
adaptable : he loves
kids, dogs, cats! He
asked me to find a real
nice family to provide
him fresh endless
amounts of hay, produce
and maybe an apple
slice. He comes w/a
round cushy bed which
gives him his comfy
happy warm security. He
is as clean as can be !
He was neutered at
Avian on 8/25/2011!
These 3
brothers are all neutered 3 month old
happy go lucky guys who definitely do
not hold a grudge on the person who left
them in the wild to fend for themselves!
They just aren’t old enough to know that
humans shouldn’t do such a sad act. So
they happily hop about, race in circles
& flop over from exhaustion ! These are
the brothers (2 white sisters are also
available) of the 11 captured by a
wonderful caring human who spent 2
nights catching all these lucky bunnies
in the Cottonwood area of Salinas. They
are in foster care getting plenty of
safe secure unconditional love until
they are adopted.
Lollipop is one of
the fortunate COTTONWOOD DUMPING bunnies who was
luckily captured quickly & brought to the
Salinas City shelter along w/her sister, DOLLY. LOLLIPOP is a tad more active than her
sister, loves to run, jump, explore until she
flops down for a long nap! She is always first
to the food bowl & the last to be caught when
it’s cage time!! She is approx. 1yr old and was
spayed at AVIAN EXOTIC Clinic Oct 6, 2011 is an
amazingly sweet girl considering the ordeal she
endured of being abandoned after living as a
domestic bunny all her life. She appears to be
approx. 1yr old. She is a friendly happy female
who needs a quieter home so she can bloom once
again. She is potty trained & ready to explore a
new home with a family that will never dump her
out in the wild again!
This delightful sweet gentle girl
was brought to our Salinas City shelter at the age of approx.
4-6 mos old. She sat there for 2 weeks before she came into our
program on Sept 14th, 2011. She is currently in
foster care, recuperating from her spay surgery (Oct. 4th,
2011 at Avian Exotic Clinic in Monterey). She is the total
package of the perfect bunny! She loves to be held, she runs up
for her treats, she loves to be in the center of house where all
the action is. She is also at the perfect age to adapt to having
a neutered male bonding if that’s your choice. Until she is
adopted, we will keep her in a loving home w/kids & daily people
interaction. Potty box trained & beautiful, we do need to find
her a perfect home, serious forever adopters please inquire!
This
amazing fella, MARSHMELLOW, arrived into our
care on 6/9/2011 from Contra Costa East Bay
Rescue when he was a mere 9 weeks old. He is the
MARSHMELLOW of the entire group & loves to be
held! He was neutered at Avian Exotic Clinic on
7/13/2011 and has been in a "Foster to Adopt"
home for a few months. His Mom doesn't feel she
ca care for him so we want the very best ever
family to adopt him so he can settle in and be
loved like he deserves! He's a true Lover Boy
for those who want a snuggler bunny . Read more
about the mysteries of the Ruby red Eyes. quite
fascinating! He also would make an easy friend
if you have a lonely spayed female.
My name is BANDIT even though I'm a
super overly friendly young boy. I was neutered At AVIAN Clinic
on 4/6/11 & am now just hanging out in an awesome foster home
until my special human spots me & wants to take me home! I came
from the Modesto shelter where they really don't give us much
status as a house companion. It's really amazing I'm as people
loving & house trained as I am ! AFRP doesn't know my past or
how young I am but estimate me to be approx. 1 yr. I will gladly
come up to anyone who wants to hold me & I'm definitely getting
better with my house cleaning manners. I love my hay & any fresh
produce. Banana chips are a favorite treat as well as a few
raisins. I've traveled far & wide, it's time for me to settle in
& bring you happiness!
This bunny must of had some good Karma in
her short life - she was on death row at a
Northern Calif. shelter when AFRP received
notice. Many emails/phone calls later, she
was saved! We only want the very best for
these rescues as they have not deserved the
treatment they've endured. The fact they
have survived is quite amazing! We will
provide this lovely lady a safe, sweet
loving foster home forever or until she
steals someone’s heart. She will be ready to
be spayed soon, but would love to go to her
new home today. Maybe she will bring her
good Karma into your lives !!! Approx 2-3
mos as of 7/8/11.
MAE came to us recently from a
hoarding surrender problem in Sacramento –
their SPCA was overwhelmed so we chose to
take Mae off their hands in hopes of finding
her a new home. This beautiful long eared
baby lop is approx 2
mos old as of 6/13/11. She was spayed at
Eastlake Vet Hospital in Watsonville n July
15th, 2011.
She is very lively & entertaining, sweet &
ready to be loved. She was never abused or
mistreated so she knows no fear and we’d
like to keep her this way forever.
Moo was a local family surrender. Another
family adopted both of them and bonded them,
but then received short notice that they had
to move and was forced to surrender them as
a pair.
They are both currently in a foster home learning how to play
w/cats & other bunnies. CALL if interested,
they will be snatched up quick!
This
adorable petite boy was brought in as a
STRAY to the SALINAS CITY shelter on
10/07/11. Poor guy has a torn ear but we
love him all the more, if only he could
tell us his story! COMET appears to be
approx. 1 yr. and was neutered NOV 2011
at Monterey County Animal Services.
Unfortunately he had to spend nearly 2
mos. in the shelter before we had room
to take him into our system so he came
to us shy & scared. He is a sweetheart
longing for a quiet, secure, small home.
He doesn't like large spaces, outdoors
or anything that reminds him of being
abandoned. He is small, quiet, clean and
would love to have endless willow
tunnels/balls to nibble on. He does not
like grapes but loves his raisins for
treats. Please consider him if you have
a quiet home/apt.
GOOBER Is a
Single brown "Easter Bunny", neutered male approx. 2 yrs
old & weighs 4 lb.s. He prefers human companionship as he
was bought from a pet store when he fit in the palm of her hand.
He loves to be pet, is sweet & playful, and loves to toss
his wooden toys about!
This beautiful SINGLE bunny is
looking for a new home because their
mom got orders to Germany. Please consider helping our Military
by giving this boy a nice safe home!
